Frank Lloyd Wright

Ever since Julie Hewlett’s Humanities class in high school, I seek out opportunities to visit art galleries – especially when I travel. Today, I got to see a gallery that is, itself, a work of art – plus a handful of really great pieces inside.

I had a few hours to kill before my flight home from New York, so I hopped in a taxi and zipped over to the Guggenheim Museum, which was designed by the amazing Frank Lloyd Wright. A big chunk of the gallery was closed as they prepare for a new exhibit; and, most of what was still open was the work of a photographer who has a VERY unique idea of what is ART.

Nevertheless, I got to see some Degas sculptures I had never seen before, some Cezanne, Renoir, Manet, Pissaro, etc., etc., AND most notably, one of my most favorite Picasso’s – Woman Ironing. I like this painting so much I have a print of it hanging in my home. It is from his Blue Period.

The main point, though, was to see the building itself – definitely one of the highlights of my visit to New York.

Bless dear Julie Hewlett! I haven't been to New York since I was about 14...before I even knew how much Julie Hewlett's Humanities class would change my life. I can't wait to go to see the Guggenheim Museum for myself! Until then...there are some lovely examples of Frank Lloyd Wright's mastery of architecture here in Arizona!!!
